Mr. Alexander Westra explained in great detail the Minoan civilization from geographical features, economy and trade, palace architecture, art style, to religious belief and other aspects of ancient Greece. After a brief introduction to the origin and time of the Minoan civilization, which is equivalent to the Xiia and Shang dynasties in China and the source of the classical Greek civilization. Focusing on the Minoan’s huge palace buildings, flourishing artistic styles, wonderful ceramic making techniques, diverse religious beliefs and unique burial traditions he wonderfully presented these features with many pictures and anecdotes. He concluded by raising the question about the decline of the late Minoan civilization whose exact cause is unknown
After the lecture, the speaker answered all of the students’ questions. He invited the students to study together at the Greek civilization research center of Xi Erzhai of Henan university at any time. This report is the first communication of Greek culture in Henan university after the establishment of the Research Center for Greek Civilization studies. The smooth development of the report has broadened the learning horizon of the center’s teachers and students, and provided great enlightenment for the study of Chinese and Greek civilization.
